GrooveTV #304 - EFX: The Estrada-Fred eXperience
Recorded live on 2/22/03 at Union, Santa Cruz, California
Audio: SBD/AUD matrix with significant portions patched from camera mics
Video: Canon XL-1, Canon GL-1 (2), Canon Optura, Sony DCR-PC101 w/ Diamond .3x Wide Angle lens (www.royal-lens.com)
What do you get when you take Quadropus-era Estradasphere, the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, part of Netwerk:Electric and several talented friends, squish them all together and force them to jam? It's EFX: The Estrada-Fred eXperience!
This video almost never happened. Despite 3 1/2 hours of some of the best jams to hit Santa Cruz, and five cameras dedicated to capturing the magic, somebody decided that the master multitrack audio tapes were just the thing to record over...just a week after the show and before any backup was made. D'oh! Lessons learned...
Recently about 40-minutes of the multitrack was recovered, near the end of the show. Mixing and EQ'ing of the camera audio was done to bring a complete show and here you have it, the final 70 minutes of the one and only EFX gig.
This is largely improvised, and tends to "go deep" at times. It features many of our favorite musicians here at GrooveTV, and deserves to be shared. Enjoy this little Santa Cruz freakout!
